Winter Weather Policy Reminder for your child’s lunch

At Harvest Fresh, we understand that snow days can cause confusion, but rest assured we are

committed to delivering lunches.

Our Commitment to Delivery

Harvest Fresh lunch delivery service does deliver to schools on snow days, barring extreme blizzard

conditions that make a location inaccessible. Note that if school buses are not running, it does not mean

we are not operating.

Parental Responsibility for Cancellations

If a school is open, some children may still attend. By law, the school is unable to provide us with

attendance information. Therefore, it is the parent’s responsibility to cancel their child’s lunch for the

day, not the school's.

We accept cancellations up to 7 am by email only - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We do not accept

voice messages, as details can be missed and last names difficult to spell correctly. On a snow day, we

extend this deadline to 7:30 am to assist parents.

Operational Information and Updates

We deliver to over 10 schools daily, so delaying your lunch by a day is not an option for us; we do not

have the staff to double the schools in one day.

By 6:30 am, we will post on social media (Facebook and Instagram) whether we are delivering lunches.

Please follow us there for the quickest updates.

Lastly, in the unlikely event that disaster-level weather forces us to cancel lunches entirely for the day,

we will post on social media and email all parents and school secretaries. Please ensure our email

address is on your safe sender list so important updates don't land in your promotions or spam folder.

 

 

 

 

 

PRICE OF MEALS

We offer different pricing depending on what your child likes. Not all meals are one price, nor should they be. Along with each meal you can add options such as juice and cookies. If your child is a bit picky, no problem at all, we have you covered.  Under options you choose what to eliminate from the meal so that your child knows the meal is special just like they are.

 

REGISTERING YOUR CHILD ONLINE

Once you register your child online you will be able to see credits you have remaining in your account. Please use the same email for the account as last year since it is based on your email. NOTE: Please register your child in the correct classroom - this is where their lunch will go and if the classroom is wrong then your child will not receive their lunch on time.

We send out email reminders so please add "This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it." to receive all reminders and updates.

 

WHAT IF THE SCHOOL IS FORCED TO CLOSE DUE TO COVID?

If a school closes due to COVID we will apply a credit to your account for the cancelled meal. If a school closes for over 3 weeks due to COVID we will issue you a refund upon request. 

 

CANCELLATIONS?

Yes, we have you covered! We accept cancellations by email only and will cancel the meal and provide a credit on your account as long as we receive notification before 6:30am on the day of delivery. If after that time, you can call the school to pick up the lunch, have it sent home with a sibling or choose to donate it to another child who does not have a lunch that day. There are a number of children in our schools that would love a hot meal.

 

WHO IS HARVEST FRESH?

Harvest Fresh is owned and operated locally in beautiful Lakeshore, Ontario. No franchise fees or money leaving the Windsor/Essex/Kent area - we are TRULY LOCAL. Because of this, we can support local community professionals, agencies and charities in this trying time who need our support. Harvest Fresh supports your school, we donate 5% of each sale back to the school. We also donate meals and accept donations from parents who want to buy lunches for other children in the community. We service Windsor, Essex County and Chatham/Kent counties.

 

We will prioritize Health and Safety 

The measures outlined below are followed in accordance to Windsor/Essex Health Unit food safety upon announcement of any pandemic.

  • Staff will be properly screened upon entering the facility in accordance the Ministry of Health guidelines. We are not open to the public. No one is allowed to enter our facility but our employees.
  • We require & provide face coverings for all employees, along with any other PPE they will need at schools.
  • Hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes will be easily accessible for our employees and healthy-habits reminders are posted in our facility.
  • We have added additional cleaning and sanitizing procedures to our already rigorous food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Utensils are now individually sealed and all lunches are labelled with your child's name

About Us

  • Please find all menu item descriptions below. We now offer freshly baked Chocolate Chip Cookies & Cinnamon Donut Holes, as well as Apple Juice & Chocolate Milk as add-on options, so please don't forget to add a little treat to your child's meal.
     
    We offer Gluten Free (GF), Halal (H), Vegetarian - no meat (V), Egg Free (EF) & Organic (O) options on some of our menu items.  Be sure to check out the different dietary options available for selection on specific meals.

    CHICKEN – all breaded chicken items can be ordered with grilled chicken instead (no breading)
     
    Chicken Balls and Rice – Breaded Chicken Balls with Rice and cooked veggies. GF
      
    Chicken Fingers & Fries – Breaded Chicken Fillets with side of plum sauce. This meal is offered with fries or you can substitute tater tots. Under options you can also add seasonal cooked vegetable. This item is available as Halal. H
     
    Popcorn Chicken – Breaded Chicken Pieces – with side of plum sauce. If offered with fries you can substitute with a hash brown. Under options you can also add seasonal cooked vegetable.
     
    Chicken Nuggets with Fries & Veggies  – Breaded Chicken Nuggets – with side of plum sauce & ketchup. H

     

    PASTAS – All pastas can be ordered with "just butter". We also offer gluten free or organic pasta. Please don't forget to add a Cheesy Garlic Breadstick to your order!
     
    Mac n' Cheese – Homemade Cheese sauce with macaroni noodles. GF, O

    Pasta Parmesan & Garlic – Penne with our homemade Aglio e Olio sauce – which is simple olive oil, garlic and parmesan. GF

    Penne with Meat Sauce -Penne with our homemade Tomato Meat Sauce. This item can be ordered without meat, which will be replaced by the Marinara Sauce. GF, V, O

    Spaghetti and Meatballs – Our homemade Marinara sauce with spaghetti and meatballs. You can choose one big Nona meatball instead of the smaller meatballs. This item can be ordered without meat or with Halal or organic meatballs. GF, V, O, H

     

    SALADS  – All salads made fresh everyday....Please don't forget to add a Cheesy Garlic Breadstick to your order!

    Chicken Caesar – Romaine, Breaded Chicken, Parmesan, croutons and Bacon. Side Caesar Dressing. Grilled Chicken,  Halal Chicken or vegetarian option available. G, H, V 

    Taco Salad - Iceburg Lettuce, Tomatoes, Cheese, Ground Beef, Doritos and Side Ranch Dressing. Vegetarian option available. This item is Gluten Free.  GF, V

    Chicken Noodle Soup - Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup with Chicken Breast Meat, Egg Noodles, Celery and Carrots.

    Texas Toast Grilled Cheese - Grilled Cheese on thick bread (Texas Toast). We use processed cheese, but it can be substituted for Mozzarella Cheese.

    Pancakes for Lunch - Pancakes with side syrup. You can add turkey breakfast sausage and hash brown to your order. Organic and Gluten Free Pancakes Available. GF, EF, O

    Mini Pancake Dippers & Tots - Mini pancakes perfectly sized for dipping in syrup with a side of tater tots. 

    Beef or Chicken Taco - Ground Beef or Ground Chicken rolled in soft tortilla with sour cream, cheese and salsa. 

    Chicken Quesadilla - Shredded Chicken Breast, Cheese and Salsa cooked in a soft tortilla shell. Side Sour Cream. H, V

    Pizza Quesadilla - Pepperoni, cheese & pizza sauce cooked in a soft tortilla shell. Add green/red peppers or bacon. V

    Perogies - Five perogies with a side of Sour Cream

    Beef Burger & Fries - Served with a side of ketchup. Some options include add cheese, halal burger or veggie burger. H, V 

    Personal Cheese/Pepperoni Pizza - Add green/red peppers or bacon. Cheese pizza can be made organic or gluten free. Pepperoni Pizza has a Halal option. V, O, GF, H

How to Get Started

Everything is handled online for your convenience. Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Create Your Account: Visit the Harvest Fresh Website to sign up. www.harvestfresh.ca
  2. Register Your Child: Select your school and the correct grade/classroom from the dropdown menu to ensure accurate delivery.
  3. Order Away: Click 'Place an Order' and pick your child's favourites!

Deadlines & Payment

  • The 5-Day Rule: Order must be placed at least 5 days in advance.
  • Payment Methods: We accept VISA, MasterCard, and E-transfer.
  • E-transfer Tips: Send your total to customerservice@harvestfresh.ca. Please include your child's name in the message notes so we can credit the right account!

What do we offer on our menu?

  • Total Customization: We offer Gluten-Free, Organic, Vegetarian, and Halal options. You can also specify ingredients to omit during checkout.
  • Drinks & Snacks: To add items such as a cookie, chocolate milk, soup, garlic bread and so on.

Cancellations & Absences

  • Same-Day Cancellations: If your child is sick or absent, email customerservice@harvestfresh.ca by 6:45 a.m. to receive a credit for a future meal. Phone cancellations are not accepted.
  • Cancellations 7 days in advance: If you would like to cancel a meal with more than 7 days notice log onto your account and go to My Orders. Find the desired meal listed under My Upcoming Meals and click the yellow X. A credit will automatically be credited to your account.
  • School Closures: For extended closures (such as strikes) lasting more than 3 weeks, refunds are issued to your original payment method. You do not need to cancel your order; we will handle it automatically.

Credits

  • When you cancel a meal we put a credit on your account, this credit is valid for one year and can be used for any student that is in your account.

Inclement Weather & Bus Cancellations

  • Fog Days: Deliveries run as scheduled.
  • Snow Days: e deliver on most snow days. As a rule of thumb: if you are driving to work, so are we. Check our Facebook and Instagram pages for real-time updates.
  • Harvest Fresh Cancellations: If dangerous road conditions force us to cancel service, we will email parents and schools by 7:00 a.m.

Dietary Restrictions & Allergies

  • We proudly accommodate religious and dietary needs! We offer customizable modifications-including Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Egg-Free, Vegetarian, Halal, and Organic - which can be selected directly when you click on a meal to order.
  • Need a custom, allergy-safe meal plan instead? Contact our customer service team directly to coordinate.

What if my child has a problem with their lunch at school?

  • Don't worry - we always pack spare meals just in case! If your child notices a delivery issue or a problem with their food, please remind them to tell our Lunch Aide right away. Our team is usually set up at a dedicated table, and the school office can always help your child find us. We're there to help, and our absolute top priority is making sure your child gets a lunch they love.

My child is sick or absent today. What happens to their meal if I did not cancel it?

  • We call these Uncollected Lunches. Because these meals have already been prepared and delivered, they cannot be credited back to your account. Every school will handle leftover meals a little differently based on their specific School Board regulations.
  • You are always welcome to contact the school office to arrange a same-day pickup for the meal.
  • If it isn't picked up, some schools will keep it in the fridge, while others are required to clear them out.
  • To ensure nothing goes to waste, any leftover meals can be donated to children or families in need within the school community.

Term and Termination

Full-Year Commitment

Upon commencement of services at the designated school, Harvest Fresh hereby commits to providing the school lunch program for the entirety of the active academic school year, subject to the provisions of Right of Termination.

The Customer acknowledges and agrees that only Harvest Fresh shall hold the right to terminate this contract prior to the end of the academic school year. Harvest Fresh reserves the exclusive right to cancel services and terminate this agreement at its sole discretion due to:

  • Insufficient order volume rendering the program operationally unsustainable; or
  • Unforeseen logistical or location-based constraints.

In the event that Harvest Fresh exercises its right to terminate the contract, Harvest Fresh shall provide the school administration with a minimum of four (4) weeks written notice of termination prior to the final date of service delivery.

My girls are loving the meals!! They were very excited to be able to pick their meals out themselves!! I think the choices are great!! I love having the break from packing 4 different lunches once a week, I get so tired of having to try and figure out what to send the kids!! Its definitely a great program!!

Our daughter's favourite meal is Chicken Caesar in a Pita. As a parent, I love the fact that she can have a hot, nutritious lunch at school that is healthy. It's a great way to break away from the regular boring 'sandwich' lunches and I love only having to pack a snack on Wednesday evenings!

I have been ordering from you for 4+ years and have come to love the quality of food you provide.

We really appreciate the meals the kids get and they look forward to their Friday lunches.
